Tell your story ‘backwards'

A fair few résumé-writers are still confused on the subject, so here it is in plain language: your résumé should begin with the most recent information (because it's perceived as the most relevant) and list all the other information about what you've been up to in reverse chronological order. Obviously the information can be subdivided (education, jobs and so on) but each category should still run in the same order. Don't include as much detail when describing things that happened a long time ago - even if you feel those were your formative years, a lot of employers are likely to feel that your distant past is of less relevance.
